Previewing Surveys in the Survey Builder
Before sending your survey, it’s helpful to review and test it to ensure everything looks and functions as expected. The Survey Builder offers several ways to preview your pulse and custom surveys, allowing you to catch errors, refine the wording, and experience it just as your respondents will.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the different ways you can view your survey—whether you need a quick preview, a test email, or a PDF copy. With these tools, you can feel confident that your survey is polished and ready to go!
View Sample
The View Sample feature allows you to walk through your survey just like a respondent would. This is a great way to check formatting, question order, and overall flow. You can also toggle between desktop and mobile views to ensure a seamless experience across devices.
If your survey includes conditional questions, this tool helps verify that the right questions appear for the right respondents. Additionally, in sample view, you can jump to any question—a handy way to check specific sections without going through the entire survey. (Don’t worry, your respondents won’t have this shortcut!)
Send Test Email
Want to see exactly what your respondents will receive? The Send Test Email feature lets you send a test invitation to yourself or a team member. This lets you read through the invitation and ensure that your uploaded logo (which you can do in Settings) appears correctly in both the email and the survey’s introduction page.
Beyond aesthetics, sending a test email allows colleagues to go through the survey and provide feedback. Their responses won’t be recorded, making it a risk-free way to refine your survey before launching.
Export PDF
For both pulse and custom surveys, you can export a PDF version of your survey, including all questions and answer options in order. This feature is particularly useful for sharing with your board, obtaining approvals, or keeping a physical record of your survey structure.
Whether you're fine-tuning details or getting final sign-off, these preview tools help ensure your survey is clear, professional, and ready to gather valuable insights.
